The Recursive Practice of Research and Teaching: Reframing Teacher Education
The authors consider possibilities for further exploration of the research of practice and the practice of research in both initial and continuing teacher education. As both a theoretical and methodological challenge, this is tied recursively with research and practice in teacher education, for teacher educators, about teacher education. The authors draw on the theoretical resources of practice theories, to argue that teacher education practice must be informed by the study of the practice of teaching as well as research addressing the teaching of practice.

The Work of the Teacher-educator in Australia: Reconstructing the “Superhero” Performer/Academic in an Audit Culture
This article draws on interview data with Deans/Heads of Schools of Education in the Australian context to explore the question: How is the teacher-educator produced as a category of academic worker? Using critical approaches to discourse analysis, it presents two interlocked storylines woven with varying emphasis through the interviews. First, the teacher-educator is produced as a superhero researcher and teacher, elevated by the expectations of the Excellence in Research for Australia audit/surveillance tools. Second, there is a concomitant struggle to reconcile pressure to research with commitment to meeting the needs of schooling systems, and to addressing the work of the teacher-educator in ethical terms.

Physical Education Teacher Educators: A 25-Year Scoping Review of Literature
The purpose of this article is to review research carried out on, with and by physical education (PE) teacher educators over the last 25 years. It also aims to identify areas where research is lacking, in order to provide scholars with a useful context for the design and conduct of future scholarly inquiry on PE teacher educators. The authors found that the bias of English language publications notwithstanding, there has certainly been a much stronger focus on PE teacher educator research in the US than elsewhere. While a wealth of data has been collected on US PE teacher educators, a number of themes have received little attention elsewhere, such as the demographic make-up, biographies, careers, socialisation, or work roles of PE teacher educators beyond North America.

Making Invisible Intersectionality Visible Through Theater of the Oppressed in Teacher Education
This article shares research conducted in a teacher education course on culturally relevant pedagogy where students engaged in Theater of the Oppressed (TO) activities to explore the multiplicity of their and their future students’ identities.

Using Excel in Teacher Education for Sustainability
The purpose of this study is to demonstrate the feasibility of using Ms Excel in teaching whole Basic Statistics Course to pre-service elementary science teachers and then to show the effects of this treatment on pre-service teachers' attitudes towards statistics. This study demonstrated that using Excel in Teacher Education in Statistics Course is feasible in most topics. Furthermore, the capabilities, accessibility and practicality of Excel program in teaching most basic statistics course topics to pre-service science teachers were demonstrated. This study showed that using Excel applications and homework assignments and class presentations in Teacher Education in Statistics Course improved attitudes towards statistics in the experiment group more than the control group.

Maker Principles and Technologies in Teacher Education: A National Survey
This study reports on the extent to which teacher education programs in the United States have begun to integrate maker principles and technologies. It also explores the factors which contribute to their decisions to include or not to include maker elements into their programs. Results indicate that approximately half of teacher education programs have at least some opportunities for undergraduates and graduates to learn about teaching and learning with maker technologies and principles.

Community, Difference, and Voice in Teacher Education

This article explores the ethical, methodological, and practical issues of translating critical theory and research into praxis through a case study analysis of a graduate capstone seminar that explored the familiar, and seemingly benign, concepts common to educational discourses. The author argues that while the data demonstrated that the teachers positioned their students as active, engaged, and thoughtful participants in their own learning process, three important points that speak to the seminar’s pedagogical objectives can be pulled from the data analysis. The three themes from the analysis of data stand in contrast to the seminar experience.

Teacher Education Futures: Today’s Trends, Tomorrow’s Expectations
This article investigate teacher educators’ views of current trends and their consequences for teacher education futures. The findings reported give voice to the expert participants. The data were then used to develop the discussion which comprised two scenarios. Two major fields of change are identified here and these are used to imagine different futures through the use of a two-dimensional model. The two major fields identified from the discussion are a continuum on location of teacher education, from school based to university based, and a continuum on autonomy and regulation, ranging from high government regulation to self-regulation by the profession.

Studying Teacher Preparation: The Questions that Drive Research
The present paper argues that research on teacher preparation over the last 100 years can be understood in terms of the major questions that researchers examined. This research focuses on two broad animating questions: “the policy question” and “the learning question.” The authors recommend that future research address questions that link teacher learning with student learning and teacher candidates’ beliefs and practices as well as questions that examine the relationships between research practices and social, economic and institutional power.

‘We Matter Just The Same’: Students and Pre-service Teachers Working Together in an Alternative Educational Setting
This article examines how a clinical experience in an alternative educational setting impacted both pre-service secondary teachers and the students with whom they worked. Findings indicate that for the pre-service teachers, the experience allowed them to develop a deeper understanding of learner diversity and the importance of connecting to students. For the agency students, the interactions with the pre-service teachers provided them with additional academic support, as well as resources for post-secondary education.
