An expanded version of the Decomposed Theory of Planned Behavior (Ajzen, 1991), which incorporated the concept of Risk Perceptions (RP), was used to examine the intentions of Turkish preservice middle school teachers to use educational technologies (ET) in their future classrooms.
A modified survey was developed and tested with a sample of 1,667 teacher education students.
The results suggest that participants found ETs useful, and not particularly risky, although some concerns were expressed. Attitude (AT), subjective norm (SN), and perceived behavioral control (PBC) were significant predictors of the variance in Behavioral Intention to use ETs. In addition, RP served as a mediator between the model components of AT, SN, PBC and intentions to use ETs.
