Dear subscriber,
MOFET ITEC Portal Newsletter

Dear readers,

Following our recent launching of the MOFET ITEC portal, we are delighted to bring you our first newsletter with a selection of articles available in this comprehensive global database.

The coverage of the first listing represents the recent articles and research findings published during 2007-2008 selected from the world's leading journals of teacher education and pedagogy.

Since this is our first accumulated bibliographic list it is a bit long. Future updates will be shorter due to our on-going coverage.

Please note that you can easily remove yourself from the subscription list by clicking on the removal link at the bottom of this mail.

We hope our ongoing international database will prove useful for your professional development, keeping you abreast of new trends and developments in teacher education worldwide and its related research.

We would greatly appreciate receiving your comments and suggestions.

Sincerely,

The MOFET ITEC Portal Team

Cooperating Teachers' Perspectives Under Scrutiny: A comparative analysis of Australia and
The article describes a comparison study of Australian and Canadian cooperating teachers. The authors contrast the local settings and draw on the differences with respect to the cooperating teachers' preparation and compensation for their role in practicum settings and the complex relations between schools and universities.
Investigating the Content and Sources of Teacher Candidates' Personal Practical Theories (PPTs)
The article reports on a study conducted to develop a model of categories of beliefs and their relationship to teachers' personal practical theories (PPTs). Since it is believed that such beliefs can influence teachers' classroom practices, the study's aim was to provide teacher educators with a better understanding of the student teachers' beliefs, in an effort to influence their knowledge and practices.
Does burnout begin with student-teaching? Analyzing efficacy, burnout, and support during the student-teaching semester
Source: Teaching and Teacher Education Volume 23, Issue 6, August 2007, Pages 916-934Burnout may begin as early as the student teaching experience. The article examines data from 49 student-teachers in the Southwest United States, gathered twice during their student-teaching period. The data included teacher efficacy, burnout, learning climate and cooperating teacher support. The study indicates significant interactions in three factors of burnout by guidance group, such that student-teachers who experience high guidance demonstrate lower levels of burnout at the end of their practicum.
Towards a New Professionalism in School? A Comparative Study of Teacher Autonomy in Norway and Sweden
The authors argue that both individual teacher autonomy at the local workplace and autonomy at the national level embracing teachers as a collective group are important in analysing teachers’ professional autonomy. In comparing teachers’ professional autonomy they differentiate between processes of individualisation and collectivisation. Their analysis indicates, although intra-national differences, that the difference between Norwegian and Swedish teachers is striking.
What is actually discussed in problem-solving courses for prospective teachers?
Audio recordings and field notes regarding two problem-solving courses for mathematics teacher education were explored, utilizing dialogical and contextualization approaches. Data analysis revealed substantial differences between the two classroom discourses and offer possible reasons for the differences.
Designing ePortfolio 2.0: Integrating and Coordinating Web 2.0 Services with ePortfolio Systems for enhancing Users' Learning
In this paper, we propose a new design that integrates and coordinates emerging Web 2.0 services into ePortfolio systems to enable community-wide annotation, interaction, and collaboration, with the goal of enhancing the learning experience for individuals as well as the community. We review relevant literatures, theories, and development of traditional ePortfolio systems. We conduct a preliminary survey study to explore users' perceived values in ePortfolio and Web 2.0 services.
